What is an eSIM?
Many of the latest Android phones support the eSIM feature. An eSIM (embedded subscriber identity module) is a small electronic chip built into your phone or device that serves the same function as the small plastic SIM cards. Rather than inserting a physical SIM card, an e-SIM supported device can be programmed and reprogrammed as needed, allowing you to switch between carriers or cancel and start service without having to get a new SIM card each time, there is also no need for a SIM ‘ejector tool’ to remove the old SIM from your phone.
Up to five virtual SIM cards can be stored on one eSIM at a time. This means you can quickly switch between different networks on your e-SIM supported phone if you find yourself in an area without a signal on your usual network. It also makes it easier to switch to a local network while traveling, without needing to physically insert a local SIM.
Key benefits of having an eSim
The eSIM eliminates the logistical hassle of getting a physical SIM card. You won’t have to look for a store or wait for your SIM to be delivered by mail. No more looking for an ejector tool, or a paperclip to change SIMs!
eSIM is also ideal if you are a frequent traveler. You can stay connected, anywhere, anytime, no matter how often or how suddenly you change locations. eSIM makes traveling easier, especially for those regularly going back and forth between the two countries. Business travelers, or expats who often visit their home country for instance, can keep two lines and easily switch from their home-based operator to their eSIM carrier like Ubigi.
eSIM technology, used in Ubigi’s eSIM service, is all about mobile connectivity everywhere, anytime! eSIM brings you a lot of advantages compared to traditional physical SIM cards.
With a eSIM compatible mobile device, you can get immediate connectivity wherever you are. All you must do is receive your eSIM profile and you’ll get connected to the Internet within minutes. Once your eSIM profile has been installed on your device, it’s always available and ready to use.

iPhone & iPad users can add a second line on their device’s eSIM, and switch easily between the two. The term “eSIM” simply means an embedded SIM card. There are no physical SIM cards involved and no physical swapping over required by you. The information on an e-SIM is rewritable, meaning you can decide to change your network operator on your iPhone. In fact, you can store up to five virtual SIM cards, one eSIM at a time.
It is really easy to add to a data plan – connecting iOS devices with eSIMs to a mobile account can be done in minutes. Your iPhone’s eSIM needs to be supported by the network or carrier and enabled by them. Not all networks support eSIM. e-SIM is great for regular travelers. eSIM should mean that you could go to another country and simply add a roaming eSIM to your handset while retaining access to your primary number.

Which iPhones are eSIM compatible?
Security has become important more than ever and that is why it has become a priority for carriers. Security standards on cellular networks are much higher than those of the public Wi-Fi networks that you can find in airports, hotels or cafés. 3G and 4G connectivity make data theft nearly impossible thanks to:
- – Private access
- – Private network
- – End-to-end control of your data
- – Encryption
- – Authentication
