Instructions for using Odin to upgrade, downgrade, and rerun original ROM, root, and recovery for Samsung devices

# Data backup:

You need to back up important data (contacts, messages, photos, videos, etc.) before upgrading the rom, because all data may be lost and cannot be recovered.

# Boot your Samsung device into Download Mode:

  1. Turn off the device and start the phone into Download Mode  (Currently, new models have different key structures, so the way to return to Download Mode is different)
    • Method 1: Press and hold 3 keys  Home + Power + Volume Down , then press Volume Up if required
    • Method 2: Press and hold the 3 keys POWER + VOLUME DOWN + BIXBY
    • Method 3: Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN + VOLUME UP keys and connect the USB cable to the computer
    • Method 4: Press and hold the 3 keys POWER + VOLUME DOWN + VOLUME UP
    • Method 5 (from Note 9 and above): Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN + BIXBY keys and plug in the USB cable to connect to the computer
  2. You may then need to press Volume Up to confirm, you will get the device into Download Mode on Samsung devices which looks like:

Note:   you can only flash with ROM / root / recovery file in .tar or .tar.md5 format

# Proceed to flash the ROM on Odin

  1. ID:COM must be lit, which means Odin has connected to the phone
  2. Select the ROM file on Odin as follows:
    (for ROMs with 1 file, just select the AP section )

    • In the BL section , select the file BL_xxx
    • In the AP section , select the file AP_xxx
    • In the CP section , select the file CP_xxx
    • In the CSC section , select the file CSC_xxx
  3. Select PIT file : select the ” Pit ” tab, click ” PIT ” and select the *.pit file (Note: some new lines have integrated the PIT file into CSC so you can skip this step)
  4. Click  Start  and wait a few minutes until it says PASS is successful.
